Westin Kierland 2010 – 2011 Enhancements

KIERLAND FLOWRIDER — COMING AUGUST 2012!

The Westin Kierland is thrilled to announce that we are bringing the FlowRider experience to Scottsdale! Opening August 2012, Kierland Flowrider will be located at the south end of our Adventure Pool area offering another option for wet and wild excitement with our now popular 110 foot water slide and lazy river ride all bringing a FUN, exciting, non-stop “wave riding” experience to the Resort!

What is a FlowRider? “Flowboarding” is not just a ride, it is a sport… a 21st Century alchemy with the look of surfing, the ride of snowboarding, the tricks of skateboarding, and boards derived from wakeboarding. Bringing the California beach lifestyle to the Sonoran desert of Scottsdale, this wave technology by Wave Loch™ will attract youth, families and all boardsport enthusiasts. Thrilling to do, thrilling to watch, and designed to handle wipeouts. The FlowRider’s waveform is a proprietary composite membrane ride surface that is designed to absorb the energy of impacts. Flowboarders may wipe out, but they’ll get back up again and again and again. Boardsports such as surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding are skill-based activities that challenge riders to develop new tricks to emulate their heroes. The best part about the Kierland FlowRider is that no skill is required to flowboard for the very first time, thus making this latest boardsport appreciated by all ages.

Breaking ground May of 2012 at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona as a part of a major expansion to the Resort’s Adventure Water Park, the Kierland FlowRider is scheduled to open August 2012 as the first boardsport simulator in the Arizona resort market.

Flowrider Construction Details & Frequently Asked Questions
We anticipate the project to begin mid-May 2012 and be completed August 2012. While construction is underway, a variety of measures have been taken to ensure that guest disruption is minimal at most, and the Resort will operate with the usual excellent amenities, facilities, and services:

  • What are the enhancement work hours? Monday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:30pm
  • What will the visual disturbance be like for guests and how will it affect the experience when in public areas (lobby/restaurant/pools) of the Resort?
Guests will not see much if any activity relative to construction work as it is taking place on the south side of the Resort near the parking lot, south of the pool areas. Temporary decorative walls and fencing will block public view of any enhancement equipment and lessen as much noise as possible.
  • What will the noise impact be for guests (e.g. jackhammers, drilling, hammering)?
Noise will be heaviest for the first week of construction in mid-May during the demo phase, however, it is a manageable level for these types of enhancements and will not affect normal levels of communication or Resort enjoyment. All concrete surfaces will be cut with a saw, not using a jack hammer, and then removed with front loaders. No guest rooms will be affected by noise due to our room blocking strategy. Pools and the “OK Corral” will be affected in that first week and very minimally throughout the construction process.

WESTIN KIERLAND BALLROOM & MEETING SPACE ENHANCEMENTS

The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa completed their largest enhancement project in their 9-year history in winter 2010
with updates to rooms, corridors and large event spaces, while summer 2011 brought more exciting updates to the outdoor pavilion. With new meeting areas, a fresh feel and limitless possibilities, The Westin Kierland is the ideal location for successful meetings, events, weddings, and more.

  • Trailblazer Ballroom is the third largest at The Westin Kierland Resort. At 11,300 square feet with wall-to-wall views overlooking Kierland Golf Course and bold copper doors leading guests into the space in grand Arizona style, the newly completed ballroom is the perfect venue for a group, event or meeting of any size or purpose.
  • In late November 2010, the awe-inspiring lake view terrace deck, Northern Sky, was completed becoming one of the most elegant outdoor venues for meeting and event space at The Westin Kierland. At 4,500 square feet, Northern Sky faces the majestic McDowell Mountains, looks over the lake on Kierland Golf Course, and is the perfect venue for an outdoor event to enjoy the beautiful Scottsdale weather.
  • In effort to provide the most renewing stay for our guests, enhancements to all Westin Kierland Resort guest rooms and corridors were completed in early October 2010. Featuring rich, warm colors in all new linens and carpeting, we hope our guests will enjoy an all-new Heavenly experience.
  • Marshall’s Pavilion was existing event space featuring a 3,400 square feet of covered opportunity and 27,000 square feet of lawn space. Enhancements completed in Summer 2011 included new landscaping for added privacy and visual appeal, elegant pavilion touches like striped shades and new light fixtures, and an outdoor stone fireplace all setting the scene for a perfect outdoor event.
